Saké
Mail Spellcheck
Saké Mail supports a spell check system, which can
be run to check the spelling of outgoing messages that the user
is composing. The system can be initiated manually by the user,
or it can run automatically when the user sends a message, according
to a user setting.
The spell check feature utilizes dictionary
files for the target language. The dictionary file can be drawn
from the current skin, or it can be a single global dictionary
that affects all skins. This allows you to assign different dictionary
files to different skins, so that you can provide language-specific
spell check functionality for different translations of your interface.
The English-language dictionary is included in the standard distribution
at no cost. Additional dictionaries for other languages are available
for a cost of $100 USD each. The following languages are currently
available:
- Brazilian Portuguese: 119,000 words
- Danish: 102,000 words
- Dutch: 178,000 words. Includes the "new
spelling" (De Nieuwe Spelling).
- Finnish: 251,000 words.
- French: 137,000 words. Contains both European
and Canadian spelling.
- German: 295,000 words. Includes spelling
reform (Die Neue Rechtschreibung)
- Italian: 283,000 words.
- Legal: Supplement to the English dictionaries
containing 4,500 words related to jurisprudence, law, criminology,
and law enforcement. Includes separate American and British
dictionaries.
- Medical: Supplement to the English dictionaries
containing 133,000 words related to anatomy, diseases, health
care, generic and trademark drug names, and medical research.
Includes separate American and British dictionaries.
- Norwegian: 95,000 words in the Bokmål
dialect.
- Portuguese (Iberian): 135,000 words.
- Spanish: 288,000 words. Contains European,
Mexican, and South American words.
- Swedish: 110,000 words
When a user triggers the spell check functionality,
Saké Mail will first look for a dictionary file in the current
skin. Specifically, Saké Mail will search under "/sake/templates/skin/spelling/",
where "skin" is the name
of the current skin. For example, if you provide a separate English
and Spanish interface as in the example in the Saké Mail localization
documentation, then you would place your
English dictionary files under "/sake/templates/english/spelling/"
and your Spanish dictionary files under "/sake/templates/espanol/spelling/".
Saké Mail will automatically locate the dictionary files based
on their extension, no matter what their specific file names are.
If dictionary files are not located in the
specific skin that the user is currently associated with, then
Saké Mail will use the shared, global dictionary files located
in "/sake/config/spelling/".
Normally these will be the English-language dictionary files that
shipped with Saké Mail, but you can replace them with any dictionary
files you like if your entire installation targets some other
specific language.
For some languages, such as Chinese, Japanese,
Korean, Farsi, Greek, Hebrew, etc, the spell check functionality
is either not appropriate or is not nearly sophisticated enough.
For these languages, we recommend removing the spell check functionality
from the templates in the given skin entirely.
